Permission forms for the field trip this Friday, October 2nd, to see the Lightening Thief by Percy Jackson are due no later than Wednesday, September 30th.
TRASH BAG ORDERS--- These were due today (September 28)! If it is still sitting on the counter at home please send that in TOMORROW (September 29). The Social Studies test last week seemed to be a struggle for many students. Today, September 28th, they were given a chance to go in their textbooks and look for the correct answer and make that change to earn back points. Correct answers were given half credit and this is the grade that will be entered into My Student's Progress once all students are finished. Scholastic Orders (online or the flyer) for the month of October will be due no later than Friday, October 16th. Parents,
NWEA Testing will begin tomorrow for the upper grades. Fourth and Fifth Grade will have the Reading Assessment tomorrow. This test will not affect your child's grade in any way, shape, or form. The results of this test simply allow the teacher to understand what the child currently knows and what needs to be taught more clearly. However, the students are expected to try their hardest. I am sure that will not be a problem though! Grades are being entered regularly. Please do not be alarmed if your child has a low grade to begin with. There will be many more grade opportunities throughout this quarter.
If you are interested in purchasing books through Scholastic and helping out our classroom you can order online with our class code: P8ZXR.
Here is the link to add your child: https://orders.scholastic.com/P8ZXR Remember the students are expected to read a total of 25 books this school year. I do have books here that they are more than welcome to choose from so ordering is not necessary. Thank you for supporting our class! Parents,
You have some truly wonderful children! I feel so blessed to be their teacher for this school year. We started the day with prayer. How can you not have a good day when you do that? Following that, the students got to know the classroom and each other. Morning procedures were discussed and their first journal entries were written. Mass was then attended. The fifth grade students will have Kindergarten buddies this year. However, they have not been introduced yet. The afternoon was another whirlwind of excitement as we worked together to determine what rules were important to keep our classroom running smoothly this school year. The students then signed a class contract/constitution. On the back of the classroom is the saying, "It is okay to not know but it is not okay to not try". They then traced the outline of their hand, wrote the word try in the middle, looked in the dictionary and thesaurus for synonoms (which they wrote surrounding try). Upon finishing, each student made the pledge "I promise to try" as their construction paper hand was stapled to the bulletin board, surrounding the quote. I am very excited to spend the rest of this year learning and growing with them! |
